They live under the strict rule of their religious, Jamaican father in the small town of Hamsford where they’re content with their sheltered life.

This was a good story. It was obviously a up to date version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I have no problem with that because the author did add some twists and turns that clearly were not inspired by the novel. I enjoyed Jane Austen's book very much and I enjoyed Mrs Girads version as well. I enjoyed reading the religious aspect and the artistic aspect in the novel. The book was filled with characters but it wasn't overwhelming. The style was a little different from her usual humorous, quirky brand of writing. However the story was still interesting. I saw two people give it one star while someone gave it 5 stars. I agree with the review and enjoyed the book. I also learned a lot. I'd never hear of Tom Feelings before and now I know who he is. If you like Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, then I think you'll love this novel.Product details

The Daughters of Winston Barnett edition by Dara Girard Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really like Dara's books but this one didn't live up to her usual books. It was long and dragged out and I just didn't enjoy reading it.
not a good review to go off. I can't get into this book and I don't know why. honestly I have not given it a real chance and I don't know why. I love most everything ms. Girard does but this book makes does nothing for me. I'm not at all excited to read it.
... maybe one day. but not today
I feel compelled to write this review though I rarely do. There are only two reviewers and unfortunately they did not appreciate this book and accordingly, gave it very poor reviews. In a unfortunately negative cycle, very few others are likely to enjoy this, having been put off by bad reviews from a limited pool of readers.
Let me say, I truly liked this book. I wonder if I am somehow mentally deficient since my view is so diametrically opposed to those of the two previous reviewers. Though this may be possible, I sincerely hope it's not the case. Perhaps the book could have been shorter but I was never bored and I could not put it down until it was done (at the expense of other things in my life which probably deserved greater priority).
My advice to anyone considering this novel, is to read the sample. Based on that I made the purchase and I did this even though a fellow Austenite offered to loan it to me. Culturally it is perhaps foreign to many. Even as a Jamaican myself, there was much that was unfamiliar and I wondered if such a world - a Caribbean/Amish type of culture - could really exist completely unbeknownst to me. But even if that aspect was complete make-believe I found it very interesting. There was enough in there to identify this as a P&P fanfic but there was enough to distinguish it on its own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and I hope potential readers give it a chance.
